Referrals and Admissions

At Raise Education & Wellbeing School, we understand that choosing the right school is a big decision, especially when your child experiences the world differently or has had difficult experiences in education before. That’s why we work in close partnership with families and local authorities to ensure our setting is the right fit for each young person.

Through individualised care, therapeutic support and purposeful learning, we help every student rebuild trust in education, develop confidence and grow into the person you know they can become.

Our school provides education for children and young people whose primary special educational need relates to Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH). Many of our students also experience additional needs linked to neurodiversity, communication, and/or specific learning differences.

Referrals are usually made by local authorities once an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) is in place. When a referral is received, our leadership team reviews all available information, and may request additional information, to determine whether our setting can meet the child’s needs. If we believe a placement could be appropriate, we share an initial costed proposal with the local authority.

Local authority processes can differ. In some cases, a student visit to school is arranged before a placement decision is made, while in others, this happens after placement confirmation. The format of any visit is tailored to the child’s needs, preferences, and circumstances.

We then begin an assessment and information-gathering process, which may include a home visit to meet the child and their family. This provides an opportunity to discuss the young person’s needs, aspirations, and the type of support that would best suit them.

Once all assessments and discussions are complete, we send a formal offer letter to the local authority confirming proposed start dates. When both parties agree that Raise Education & Wellbeing School is the right placement, the Local Authority signs the Individual Placement Agreement (IPA) to finalise the placement.

Transition and integration planning is highly personalised. We recognise that every young person’s journey into school looks different. For some, it may take time to feel ready for a new environment. In these cases, we begin by building trust and positive relationships at home, supporting the young person to feel safe and understood before gradually introducing school-based sessions. For others who are eager to start in school straight away, we work closely with families and professionals to make sure this happens smoothly and supportively, ensuring a positive start from day one.

Within the first 12 weeks of a student starting at Raise Education & Wellbeing School, we hold a Post-Admission Review with parents/carers and the local authority to review the placement, celebrate progress, and agree any necessary adjustments to provision.
