Are you passionate about making a genuine difference in the lives of young people with SEMH and autism needs? We are seeking a skilled and compassionate Teaching Assistant who can build strong, trusting relationships, remain calm under pressure, and deliver high-impact, trauma-informed support. This is a rewarding opportunity to play a key role in helping pupils feel safe, understood, and ready to learn.

Key Responsibilities

1. Support for Pupils
  • Build consistent, trusting relationships with high-needs learners.
  • Deliver proactive and responsive regulation support during dysregulation or crisis.
  • Implement EHCP targets, Behaviour Support Plans (BSPs), and individualised strategies.
  • Facilitate access to learning by adapting tasks and communication methods.
  • Provide mentoring, modelling, and social development support for pupils.
2. Learning and Curriculum Support
  • Support the delivery of differentiated curriculum content in collaboration with teachers.
  • Use assistive technology, visual supports, and sensory tools to aid access and engagement.
  • Deliver targeted interventions (e.g. Zones of Regulation, SCERTS-based strategies).
  • Monitor and report on pupil progress, engagement, and well-being.
3. Environment and Behaviour Support
  • Create and maintain calm, predictable, and safe learning environments.
  • Contribute to individual risk assessments and positive handling plans.
  • Supervise pupils during transitions, break/lunchtimes, and off-site activities.
  • Use restorative and relational practice consistently in line with the school ethos
4. Professional Collaboration and Development
  • Work closely with therapists, SENCO, teachers and behaviour teams.
  • Attend team debriefs, supervision, and reflective practice sessions.
  • Provide informal mentoring to newer or intermediate-level TAs.
  • Participate in CPD linked to SEMH, autism, and therapeutic approaches

Person specification

Essential
  • 4 GCSE’s including maths & English L4
  • Level 3 TA qualification or equivalent experience
  • Full driving license and fully insured car available for work
  • IT literate
  • Significant experience supporting pupils with SEMH and/or autism
  • Skilled in de-escalation, co-regulation, and trauma-informed practice
  • Skilled in de-escalation, co-regulation, and trauma-informed practice
  • Emotionally resilient and calm under pressure
  • Understanding of sensory processing and communication needs
  • Strong teamwork and communication skills
Desirable
  • Experience of SEMH & ASD
  • CPD in Team Teach, Zones of Regulation, or NVR
  • Experience in special school or AP setting
  • Familiarity with SCERTS, PECS, or AAC tools
  • Experience contributing to EHCP reviews and documentation

    Our School

    Raise Education & Wellbeing school is a trauma-informed independent SEMH special school that caters for 11 to 19 year olds (up to 25 if their needs require) with education and healthcare plans.

    In addition we provide a Day 6 service to councils for children that have been permanently excluded, providing them with specialist assessment in order to determine their overall needs.

    We are a new school, having registered in 2016 and received an Ofsted judgement of Good with Outstanding features, in 2017 & 2022.
